IBM On Demand Grant Awarded to Hudson Valley Hospital Center
On October 3, 2007, Hudson Valley Hospital Center was awarded the IBM On Demand Grant, typically used to fund educational projects for nonprofit organizations. Projects that have been funded by the grant in the past include student mentor programs, the development of a science museum, an after-school program and meal preparation at a homeless shelter.
Nine-year HVHC volunteer and an employee of IBM for 33 years, Harry Levy of Yorktown Heights, was instrumental in securing the grant from IBM. The grant can be requested by any IBM retiree who volunteers at a non-profit organization. Through Levy's efforts the Hospital has received the On Demand Grant to fund other HVHC initiatives in the past.
The $1,000 grant will be used to purchase four new wheelchairs for Hudson Valley Hospital Center. These wheelchairs can be used for nearly all patients including the elderly, pregnant and or those in recovery. Extra resources for patients are of great use to the Hospital as HVHC embarks on their $100 million expansion project.
