Candlelight Vigil for Domestic Violence Awareness

Anger is a feeling, violence is a choice. Survivors of Domestic Violence will lead a vigil to increase awareness, inspire hope and educate people about options. There will be inspirational speeches and live music.

Please join them at 7pm at the Putnam County Courthouse on 40 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, on Monday, October 29, 2007. They will proceed to the Cornerstone Park for a ceremony and reception. In inclement weather, services will be held in the Knights of Columbus Hall on Fair Street in Carmel. Listen to powerful messages shared by survivors of domestic violence and awareness advocates

1 in 3 women are physically assaulted by a partner at least once during adulthood. 30% of all female homicide victims are killed by their partner. 50% of abusers also abuse their children. Astounding! It is time to break the silence and stop the violence.

The women leading this group are survivors of domestic violence. Some lived in shelters or safe houses during their journey to safe and empowered lives. They are grateful to organizations that have helped them personally or spread awareness for domestic violence such as The Putnarn / Northern Westchester Women's Resource Center of Mahopac, Putnam County People Against Domestic Violence, Knights Against Domestic Violence, The NY State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

For additional information about the event, contact Liz Grant at 914-514-0592 and for more information about domestic violence, visit www. putnamcountyny/padv or
