Putnam's Crisis Dear Editor:
We as citizens simply do not know where the county stands fiscally and managerially. The pending Putnam County Tax increase of 23% suggests that our county may be insolvent and chronically mismanaged.
Mr. Bondi must veto the tax increase and thereafter we must find fact regarding the latent defects of his tenure. Mr Bondi has held office five terms, which afforded him the ability to mask managerial issues and concerns from view.
Without term limits, the indefinite nature of elected tenure among our local officials removed an important internal control in the management of our taxes and common affairs. Without the oversight of term limits politicians can too easily work to their own political, personal, and economic benefit, as may be the case with the county. A third party has to step in to audit the county and gain an impartial view of where we stand.
With this budgetary and managerial failure, it may be time for New York State or Federal investigative services to step in as Mr. Bondi does us all a public service by stepping down.
