Tamagna has Demonstrated Willingness to Have his Work Subjected to Independent Review Dear Editor:
On the one hand, I'm put off by the rhetoric of our upcoming election for town supervisor. I keep reading contradictory accounts of who has done what, and what the different candidates believe. It's hard to figure out what the truth really is.
If you look back into past news articles, I find that both Mr. Mazzucca and Mr. Tamagna have been supportive of Philipstown's "local historic cultural and historic preservation causes." So I took one issue to look at more closely. I decided to research the issue of the financial responsibility from the point of view of transparency and record.
I found stories about Mr. Tamagna dating back to 2002 calling for a budget audit in Putnam County where he serves as a legislator. Before that he served as Chairman of Audit and Administration Committee, 1997 - 1998.
He is on the record as an elected official who has steadily called for independent evaluation of the budgets he, himself, has been in part responsible for passing. This demonstrates a willingness to have his own work examined by a non-biased individual who can better ascertain the truth of his record than the salvos of claims and counterclaims put forth by paid campaigns.
I was unable to find any similar record of Mr. Mazzucca's efforts to secure independent review or ensure that there be a transparent budget process.
