Anne Frank Exhibit Opens at Putnam Valley High School

TheatreWorks students Emma Forbes, Allie Huyghe and Melinda Cestaro sell tickets for Diary of Anne Frank, fall drama, to be presented by Putnam Valley High School in December. Image are copyright © AFS/Amsterdam and AFF/Basel.
The Putnam Valley High School Performing Arts Center is proud to present Anne Frank: A History for Today, an exhibit depicting the life and journey of a remarkable young girl who was an innocent victim of the Holocaust but whose words live on through the diary she kept. Anne Frank's diary was first published in 1947. Today, her words have been translated into 67 languages and The Diary of Anne Frank is one of the most widely read books in the world.

The PVHS Performing Arts Center at 146 Peekskill Hollow Road in Putnam Valley is housing the exhibit for two weeks. Anne Frank: A History for Today was developed by the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and is sponsored in North America by the New York-based Anne Frank Center, USA, Inc.

This exhibit is made possible by Putnam Valley High School, Putnam Valley Middle School, the Putnam Valley Education Foundation, The Putnam Valley High School Parent Teacher Student Association and the Putnam Valley Parent Teacher Association. The opening reception was held on October 16. The exhibit will remain at PVHS until Tuesday, October 23, when the second and last public viewing will be offered from 6pm to 8 pm.

As part of this series of Holocaust related events, PVHS will offer a free screening of the film Paper Clips on Friday, October 26 at 7pm. Paper Clips is an uplifting 2004 documentary that tells the story of teachers and students in the small Appalachian town of Whitwell, Tennessee, who, in an effort to understand the magnitude of the Holocaust, set out to collect 6 million paper clips, and ended up building a Holocaust memorial in the heartland of America.

The culmination of this Holocaust education series will be the presentation of PVHS TheatreWorks' Fall Drama, The Diary of Anne Frank, on December 7-9, 2007.
