Philipstown Junior Pee Wee Football Hawks Fall to Hudson Valley B

Coming off a win last weekend at New Paltz the Philipstown Junior Pee Wee Hawks fell in their final regular season game to undefeated Hudson Valley B 7-6 in a contest that came down to the final whistle.

Following the opening kickoff the Hawks scored on their first play from scrimmage as Will Moss tallied a 52-yard run led by solid and disciplined blocking by the backs and the offensive line. On the ensuing kick-off Blake Cohen recovered a fumble but the drive was stalled by Hudson Valley at its own 20-yard line after 12 hard fought plays. Hudson Valley's next drive featured hard hits from cornerbacks Alec Vasi and Will Moss, and was eventually stuffed at the Hudson Valley 47-yard line following a fumble recovery by Sachin Sanmugaraja resulting from heavy pressure on the quarterback by Jordan Panthen and Matthew Balducci from the linebacker and defensive end spots. The Hawks drove to the Hudson Valley 20-yard line on tough runs by backs Ryan McCollum and Jordan Panthen and a bootleg by quarterback Tyler Giachinta but the drive was stopped short and the ball turned over to Hudson Valley for one final play before halftime.

Following the second half kick-off the Hudson Valley drive began at its own 42-yard line and ended after 7 plays at the Hawks 23-yard line after linebacker Nick Allen made several solid tackles and on a third stripped the ball from the Hudson Valley half-back. The Hawk's next drive stalled at the 50-yard line as Hudson Valley's defense stiffened. Hudson Valley took over on downs and were stopped on four successive plays due to tough inside tackles registered by defensive linemen Matthew Koval and Tommy D'Eustachio and linebackers Nick Allen and Sachin Sanmugaraja. Hudson Valley stopped our next drive and 2 plays later scored on a 65 yard passing play followed by the pivotal extra point which proved to be the difference in the game. Two drives later the Hawks took over on downs and with precious seconds remaining in the game attempted a final pass play to receiver Connor Allen who made a valiant effort but the pass fell incomplete at the final whistle.

The entire team of 18 players - Thomas D'Eustachio, Caleb Ogren, Nick Allen, Matthew Koval, Austin Semple, Sachin Sanmugaraja, Jordan Panthen, Blake Cohen, Jared Reyes, Will Moss, Ryan McCollum, Matthew Balducci, Connor Allen, Alec Vasi, Steven Dick, Tyler Giachinta, Brandon Rucker, and Gilly Pemble-Flood should be applauded on a hard fought season where they showed discipline, teamwork and intensity and left their hearts out on the field each and every game. Special thanks go out to the dedicated coaching staff, which put in countless hours preparing the team and to the parents, family and friends that supported the team all year. The Hawks finished the season 2- 4, and were 2-2 in their division. We look forward to the 2008 season. Go Hawks!
