Nelsonville Plans Public Hearings on Pooper Scooper and Vehicle Weight Limit Laws by Mike Turton
The Village of Nelsonville postponed public hearings on two new proposed laws at its monthly meeting held on Monday, October 22. One law will place weight restrictions on trucks using Village roads. The other, dubbed the "pooper-scooper law," will make pet owners responsible for cleaning up after their dogs when walking them within the Village limits. Both hearings will now be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 7:30pm at the Village hall.
Christmas decorations will go up on Main Street at Thanksgiving but will not feature electric lights. Just as it did last year, the Village Board cited high costs in opting to again use only simple pole decorations. Lights would have cost approximately seven thousand dollars to install.
In another cost-saving move the Village signed a three-year agreement with the CornerStone Telephone Company for phone service to the Village offices. By signing the long-term contract the Village will realize considerable savings on both local and long distance calls. CornerStone is a Troy, NY-based company specializing in telephone systems and other communication systems for businesses.
Voting in the upcoming election will once again be held at the Nelsonville Fire Hall and not at the Village Hall. Residents have complained about the move to the Fire Hall, a decision made by the Putnam County Board of Elections due to changes in voting district boundaries.
The Village of Nelsonville Village Board will meet next on Monday, November 5 at 7:30 pm
