First Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards of the Mid-Hudson Valley

The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Mid Hudson Valley Chapter will hold its inaugural 2007 National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon, presented by Health Quest, on November 15 at Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor. This event acknowledges philanthropists, volunteers, corporations and fundraisers who have made significant contributions to the community.

National Philanthropy Day is the special day set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy and those people active in the philanthropic community have made to our lives, our communities and our world. When NPD was first celebrated in 1986, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation officially recognizing Nov. 15, 1986, as National Philanthropy Day. Since then, the day has been recognized by numerous state, provincial and local governments across North America. 2007 marks the 22nd anniversary of NPD. More than 110 NPD events, involving over 50,000 people across North America, including Canada and Mexico, will take place in 2007. These events include award ceremonies, galas, luncheons, seminars and other special events.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is the main sponsor of NPD through its 28,000 members in 180 chapters across North America and around the world. Chapters work with many local charitable and community organizations to hold NPD events. The Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of AFP was established in 2006 and will host the region's first National Philanthropy Day Awards. Andrea Reynolds, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Dutchess County will provide a keynote address, The Power of Philanthropy.

The event will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2007 from 12 -2pm at Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor. For reservations please call 845-853- 4380. Cost is $35 per person.
