Chapel Of Our Lady Restoration Breaks Ground for Chancery

Mayor Anthony Phillips and Board President Gail Greet Hannah (center) turned the first spade for the Chapel of Our Lady Restoration's new Chancery building. They were joined by board members (from left to right) Elizabeth Healy, Emerson Pugh, Carol Powell, Betty Green, Barbara Impellittiere, Elizabeth Grasso, Gayle Watkins, Arthur Ross, Jennifer Sandlund, Janet Rust, Barbara DeSilva, Marcelline Thomson and William Kohler.

Members of the community attending the October 21 ceremony were treated to bagpipe music by Seth Gallagher, champagne and refreshments, and a perfect Hudson Valley autumn day. In addition to private funds, the building is made possible by grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Empire State Development Corporation. The Chancery will provide restrooms and changing rooms for wedding parties and performing artists, an office and archive. Designed by architect Peter Smith, it fulfills the vision of the restorers who rescued the Chapel from abandonment 35 years ago.
