Dutchess County Man Arrested In Connection With 2001 Home Invasion
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Dutchess County man on charges stemming from the 2001 burglary of a Patterson

On October 30, 2001, the sheriff's office received a 9-1-
call of a burglary In progress at Shoreham Drive, in the Putnam Lake section of the Town of Patterson. Sheriff's deputies, investigators and members of the New Fairfield
CT) Police Department responded to the scene. According to the caller, she was at her home taking a bath, when an intruder entered her house. A 9-1-1 call for help was placed, however the call was routed to
Connecticut 9-1-1 call center. As police approached the residence, the male suspect fled on foot without harming the homeowner and before he was able to steal anything from within the home. A massive search ensued, however, the perpetrator was able to elude police.
The case was assigned to Investigator Nicholas DePerno, Jr. of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. As a result of his investigation, a suspect was developed: 33 year-old Scott Torrellas of Clove Valley, LaGrangeville, New York. When attempting to locate Mr. Torrellas, It was determined that he had been arrested by detectives from the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office on first degree robbery charges and ultimately sentenced to a ten-year prison term in a New York State correctional facility. Investigator DePerno applied for and received an arrest warrant issued by Patterson Town Justice John King, charging Mr. Torrellas with Burglary in the Second Degree. A copy of the arrest warrant was lodged with prison officials.
On October 31, 2007, Scott Torrellas was released from the Downstate Correctional Facility. Armed with the outstanding arrest warrant, Investigators DePerno and Thomas Velotti responded to the prison and took custody of Mr. Torrellas. He was returned to
the Putnam County Sheriff's Office in Carmel, where he was booked on the felony charge.
Mr. Torrellas was arraigned before Patterson Town Justice Roger Tricinelli and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 cash bail or $100,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to return before Justice King on November 29, 2007.
Burglary in the Second Degree Is a class "C" felony. A conviction of this criminal charge may be punishable by a term of imprisonment of up to fifteen years in a state correctional facility.
