Pawling Woman Charged After Leaving Scene of Crash
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the October 20, 2007 arrest of a Pawling woman for Driving While Intoxicated after her vehicle was involved in a collision with a street light in the hamlet of Carmel.
At about 7:40pm a concerned motorist dialed 911 to report that a vehicle she was behind on Route 52 in Carmel had just struck a street light and as the caller had attempted to check the driver for any injuries the vehicle backed away from the pole and drove off. The caller began to follow the vehicle while 911 operators broadcast the information to area police patrols. The vehicle traveled along Fair Street in Carmel and Patterson and made several unusual stops and starts before being intercepted by Deputy John Wynne on Fair Street near the Interstate 84 overpass.
Upon making contact with the driver the deputy determined that she was highly intoxicated and unable to provide coherent answers to the deputy's queries. The subject subsequently failed several standard field sobriety tests. During the course of his investigation Deputy Wynne located several open empty liquor bottles in the vehicle.
The defendant, Denise Bronson, 34, of Memorial Avenue, Pawling was transported to the Sheriff's Department headquarters in Carmel where a chemical test indicated that she had a blood alcohol level ~of .21 % . She was subsequently charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Leaving the scene of a Property Damage Accident and issued several traffic summonses. After being processed on the charges she was released to the custody of a third party pending future court appearances.
