3rd Annual Sustainability Expo Will Feature Plenty of Interest for the Whole Family Kids from Garrison School's EcoKids Program and "Green Teens" from DoRight Enterprises set to Participate
On Saturday, November 10, the Hudson Highlands Land Trust and Teatown Lake Reservation will sponsor their 3rd annual sustainability exposition at The Garrison in Garrison, NY from 9am to 1pm. As always, this event is free and open to the public.
This year's theme is Choices for Sustainable Living: You Can Do It! in an effort to empower adults, teens and even children to embrace simple measures that can make a real difference.
The Expo will include a variety of programming stressing that young children and teens can have a measurable impact by understanding and embracing "green" practices and that education is the key to creating a sustainable world. Actor Chevy Chase and his wife Jayni, founders of The Center for Environmental Education Online (www.ceeonline.org), are featured speakers. Programming will also include an EcoArt workshop especially for young children, and a workshop by Scott Beall introducing his DoRight Enterprises program, which trains pre-teens and teens to serve as volunteer sustainability/energy efficiency consultants to businesses. The EcoKids of the Garrison School, an environmental awareness and action group started by local moms, will be erational concept, this year's program invites kids and teens, as well as adults, to get involved. "Everyone can play a part if they embrace just one thing to make their household greener. That one thing might be turning off lights when you leave a room, recycling your newspaper or taking a shorter shower - small things have a big impact over time" said Anne Symmes, HHLT Board Member and one of the founding EcoKids moms.
Other planned highlights will include a wide variety of exhibits showcasing green technologies and sustainable products as well as subject matter experts and "knowledgeable neighbors" who will be on hand to discuss and provide information on sustainable practices such as: building, energy efficiency, local agricultural, landscaping and gardening, consumer products, biodiversity, and recycling and reuse. There will also be four separate topical breakout workshops and a tour of four local homes that employ sustainable technology.
