Free Coin and Stamp Appraisals in Carmel

The Croton River Numismatic Society of Carmel, a coin club, will once again offer the free appraisal of U.S. and foreign coins, paper money, stamps, medals and tokens to the public on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Carmel Fire Department Meeting Room from 9am to 5pm. The firehouse is conveniently located 1/4 mile north of the county courthouse on Route 52 in Carmel.

When this semi-annual event was last held this past April, more than 95 people traveled from the Bronx, Rockland, Dutchess, Westchester, Orange and Fairfield counties to take advantage of the free and valuable service.

With the price of gold and silver having reached near record highs, common coins containing those precious metals have increased dramatically in price, making this free appraisal offer even more valuable. For example, pre-1965 silver coins are now worth between six and ten times their face value. Collector coins and paper money have also shown substantial price increases in recent months.

Society members performing the appraisals have more than 35 years experience in their respective hobby and have performed hundreds of appraisals, including those for estate and insurance purposes. Using the most current price guides both coins and stamps made from 1600 to date can be attributed and appraised.

Appraisals will be performed on a first come - first serve basis. More information and directions may be had by calling (845) 225-8201. Ample free parking is available at the rear of the firehouse, which is handicapped accessible.
