Everyday Mathematics Night at Haldane

Haldane Elementary School teachers presented an Everyday Mathematics Night to help parents learn about their childrens' math program. Everyday Mathematics is based on the idea that students build understanding and develop skills as a result of many meaningful and connected learning experiences. Mastery of mathematics concepts and skills comes with repeated exposure and practice. Everyday Mathematics supports the New York State Learning Standards.

Students will understand the concepts of and become proficient with the skills of mathematics; communicate and reason mathematically; and become problem solvers by using appropriate tool and strategies. The children develop a broad background by learning concepts and skills in the following six content strands: Number and Numeration; Operations and Computation; Data and Chance; Measurement and Reference Frames; Geometry; and Patterns, Functions, and Algebra. For more information on Everyday Mathematics check out http:// everydaymath.uchicago.edu. Special thanks go to Judy Finehirsh, Math Coordinator, for organizing the event.
