MTA Metro-North Railroad Adjusts Schedule for Thanksgiving

MTA Metro-North Railroad wants to make your Thanksgiving travel a little less hectic with off-peak fares and a special four-day holiday timetable for the most traveled holiday of the year, and free weekend and holiday parking is available at many train stations.

The holiday getaway begins Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving, November 21, with 17 additional trains departing Grand Central Terminal between 1pm and 4:10pm in addition to the regular weekday schedule.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, Metro- North will provide additional inbound morning service for customers going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. There is also expanded outbound service starting in the late morning, continuing until mid-afternoon for customers traveling to suburban destinations. Finally, there is expanded evening service for customers returning to New York City.

To speed departures from Grand Central and Harlem- 125th Street stations, from 10am through 2pm customers must present a ticket to a conductor or station agent at the gate before entering the train platform. Therefore, customers traveling into the city should purchase a round-trip ticket at their departing station to save time on the way home.

Off-peak fares apply all day on Friday, November 23, the day after Thanksgiving. Fewer people will be commuting but many shoppers and sightseers will travel into the city in the late morning and return in the early afternoon. Friday's unique schedule provides plenty of service to accommodate all.

Schedules for Saturday and Sunday, November 24 and 25 also add trains to the regular weekend schedule.

Special Thanksgiving Holiday timetables are available in Grand Central Terminal, as well as all outlying Metro-North ticket offices. For information, call 800-METRO-INFO; in New York City call 212-532- 4900. (The hearing impaired may call 800-724-3322 via teleprinter).
