Sex Offender in Putnam Valley Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison
Putnam County District Attorney, Kevin L. Wright has announced the conviction and 7 year prison sentence of Robert Benitez, age 34, of Putnam Valley, New York, for engaging in a course of sexual conduct toward a child from the time she was 10 Until the time she was 12 years old and the sexual abuse of another child who was 10 years old. Wright said no further information about the victims would be provided to preserve their identity.
Wright said Benitez admitted his guilt to the crimes Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, both class D violent felonies, in Putnam. County Court on September, 20, 2007. Wright said he recommended a 7 year determinate prison term and 3 years post release supervision for Benitez, to keep him away from children, while sparing the two child victims from having to testify at trial. Wright said Benitez will also be tracked as a registered sex offender under Megan's Law when he leaves prison.
The investigation was conducted by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department after receiving a report from the school the two victims were attending when one of the girls made a disclosure.
D.A. Wright said County Court Judge James T. Rooney sentenced Benitez to this seven year determinate sentence in Putnam County Court on November 14, 2007 where the defendant was represented by Timothy Curtiss, of the Putnam. County Legal. Aid Society. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Makaria Gallagher. Wright said Benitez will be held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility until he is transported to State Prison.
