Haldane Varsity Football Team Has Given it Their All Throughout the Season Dear Editor:
The Haldane Football Association and parents would like to say how very proud we are of the 2007 Varsity Football team. We are writing this without knowing the outcome of the state semifinal game, but that does not matter.
This team has had to face so much adversity this year and they have never given up. They lost their starting quarterback in the second game of the season causing, the split-end to take over the helm of the team. They lost their starting running back in the same game, and he has been out for most of the season. He did not play the regional game and is still questionable for the semifinal game.
One of the seniors, playing football for the first time ever this year, recently lost his mother and another teammate's father passed away during the season. Yet another player lost his grandfather shortly after the Regional game. This wonderful man was at every game these boys played, from their Pop Warner games (and even practices!) right through the regional game last Saturday. He will be truly missed.
Due to further injuries, two linemen were not able to play in the semifinal game and another running back was also out. Another player had to deal with his grandmother's surgery on the day of the semifinal game.
These boys have been on an emotional roller coaster all season long. But when it came to game time, they were focused, dedicated and gave their all. Coach Percacciolo and his staff, most of whom serve as volunteers, have led by example every step of the way and have taken major steps to rekindle the spirit of football in our little community.
We just want to congratulate you for a great season and tell you how much we loved watching you play. We adults learned a lot from you young men - how never to give up!!
