Marist Theatre Group to Present Bang, Bang You're Dead

The Marist College Council on Theatre Arts will present William Mastrosimone's play Bang, Bang You're Dead, with the intention of educating students about school violence and bullying. Following the show, there will be an interactive discussion between the actors and the audience, facilitated by professional staff from the Marist College Division of Student Affairs.

Performances are on Friday, November 30, at 8pm, Saturday, December 1, at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday, December 2, at 2pm in the Nelly Goletti Theatre, located on the third floor of the Student Center on the Marist campus. All performances are free and open to the public, but reservations are still requested by calling (845) 575- 3133.

Bang, Bang You're Dead was written in the wake of the school massacres that occurred in Paducah, Jonesboro, and Springfield to raise awareness about school violence. It takes on added meaning this year in the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech.

Mastrosimone describes the play as "a resource for dealing with a broken world that's violent, unhealthy, unfair, and beyond the power of anyone to fix, except today's generation." The play has been performed widely in the United States and ten countries. The play was written a decade ago and the 2002 film version was on Showtime, winning a Peabody and an Emmy for Outstanding Children's Special.

MCCTA has reached out to high schools in the region to encourage students to attend. The play contains some intense and emotional content that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.
