Unions Support Montrose Veterans Food Bank

On Tuesday, November 20, 2007 the Westchester/Putnam Central Labor Body, AFL-CIO delivered thousands of dollars worth of food and grocery gift cards to the Montrose Veterans Food Bank to thank the veterans and their families for all they have Unions Support Montrose Veterans Food Bank

Many families were disrupted when family members were sent off to fight for their country. In some cases both mother and father were away from home and children had to be left with grandmothers, grandfathers, cousins, sister, brothers or merely friends. Some came home and could not find a job. Many were hurt or disabled and could no longer work. Many are presently homeless. Union members felt they wanted to make their lives easier. Thus, the Central Labor Body put out a call to its members to ask for help.

As in the past, whenever there is an emergency, union members came to the rescue of those in need. All kinds of union members responded… plumbers, electricians, teachers, civil service workers, sheet metal workers, painters, fire fighters, utility workers, nurses, and union retirees to name a few. The response was overwhelming. Even some workers at OSHA heard about the drive and asked if they could contribute.

The Montrose Veterans Food Bank and Peekskill Councilperson Donald Bennett, who made the unions aware of the food banks need, were happy to see the amount of food delivered. done for their country.
