Holiday Open House at Stony Kill

On Thursday, December 27 Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center will hold their annual holiday open house from noon until 4pm. This event is free of charge and designed for all age groups. Stay as long or as short as you like, just come and have fun.

Owls are infrequently seen by people because they're nocturnal and very quiet. However, the sounds of "who who who" are often heard. Together you can figure out who's really out there making all that noise. Each family can dissect an owl pellet to find out what owls eat. This and many more activities and environmental exhibits can be enjoyed by kids young and old.

Visit the Verplanck Manor House for a tour of this historical Hudson Valley home, live music, nature storytelling, demonstrations of old-fashioned wool spinning and sachet making. The new "green" building, the Learning Center will be buzzing with activities for children. Learn what winter birds eat and how they stay warm, listen to and learn the different "calls" the Stony Kill resident birds use and you'll be shown how to make your own birdfeeder from recycled materials. Whatever your interest and activity level, there will be something for everyone. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and come for a winter tracks walk on our accessible Woodland Trail. Before you leave remember to take a copy of the calendar of winter events.

Decorations and refreshments courtesy of the Verplanck Garden Club. For more information, contact 845-831-8780, ext. 300.
