Warm Hands-Warm Hearts Teen Percussion Program at Howland Library
Howland Public Library in Beacon is the appreciative recipient of an Ann and Abe Effron Fund grant received through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County in the amount of $1,000. The monies will be used to help fund a special program called "Warm Hands-Warm Hearts" in February of 2008. Teens will be invited to experience a "handson" drumming circle workshop with professional percussionist, Jeff Haynes. Once a week teens will gather to receive instruction on developing rhythmic patterns, playing within a group, and exploring various sounds and tones on the drum.
At the end of the month, the students will share their learning experience with senior citizens in a special interactive performance in the library. This exchange will not only bridge the generation gap but will also offer the teens an opportunity to enjoy the freedom of expressing their inner rhythms while "warming hearts."
