Tree Lighting Ceremony at Jefferson Valley Mall Starts 19th Annual Tree of Life Fundraiser

On Friday, November 16, a sizeable crowd gathered at the Jefferson Valley Mall for Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam's 19th Annual Tree of Life tree lighting ceremony. Tom Furci, midday host for WHUD radio, made a special appearance as the Master of Ceremonies. Festive music and entertainment was provided by Broadway Bound.

Hospice Care hosted the tree lighting ceremony to announce the start of their annual Tree of Life fundraising campaign. This year's tree was lit by the DeRose family. Rosemary Gebhardt spoke on behalf of her family. She summarized her family's experience with Hospice Care by calling the Hospice staff "angels on earth."

Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam would like to thank the sponsors who helped make this event possible: The Journal News; Careseekers, Inc., Dow Chemical, Sound Shore Medical Center and Jake's Steakhouse; and the hosts: Jefferson Valley Mall, Crowne Plaza, and Mt. Kisco Holiday Inn.

The Tree of Life is an annual fundraiser organized by Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam. It captures the solemn spirit of the holiday season and provides people with a wonderful opportunity to remember loved ones in a special way. Individuals may purchase ornamental doves to be inscribed with the name of a loved one, which are then displayed on the evergreen trees in Tree of Life event locations for the duration of the holiday season. If you are unable to attend the Tree of Life, but would still like to make a donation in memory or in honor of a loved one, you may purchase a dove by or by phone.

All proceeds from the event benefit Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam which offers comprehensive, compassionate programs for patients with advanced or life-threatening illnesses and their families. Bereavement support groups are also offered, at no cost, to children and adults in the community. If you would like more information about Hospice, the Tree of Life or would like to make a donation, please call (914) 666-4228.
