Christmas Tree Safety Suggestions from Garrison Volunteer Fire Company Chief Kyle Irish
The Garrison Volunteer Fire Company would like to remind you that fire never takes a holiday.
A few suggestions by Fire Chief Kyle Irish on Christmas tree safety can go a long way in keeping you and your family safe during the holiday season: · Choose a freshly cut tree, not one showering needles when moved. · Cut a few inches off the bottom of the trunk before placing the tree in the stand. · Check and replace worn or damaged light sets or wires. · Use only U.L. approved tree lights, spotlights or floodlights. · Never use lit candles on the tree. · Use only non-combustible decorations on the tree. · Check water in the stand DAILY. · Install a smoke detector near the tree. · Don't let the tree block hallways, stairs or exits. · Use a power strip to avoid 'octopus' connections that overload circuits. · Disconnect lights at bedtime or when no one is home. · Remove discarded packages and wrappings from your home. Never burn wrappings in a fireplace or woodstove, as they can cause a chimney fire. · If the tree dries out, take it down and remove it.
The Garrison Volunteer Fire Company would like to thank you for your continued support of all our community volunteers and accept their best wishes for the Holiday Season.
