Guillaro has a Vested Interest in Town as a Whole Dear Editor:
As we enter the threshold of new development of the Butterfield Hospital site it calls to mind the previous controversy regarding the now completed Cold Spring Landing project. Mr. Guillaro/ Unicorn Contracting came under great criticism as they struggled to bring the project to life. Initially, letters were sent to this paper insinuating that the project was grossly conceived and that the execution of plans would lead to a monstrosity sitting at the waters' edge.
What has resulted is a beautifully constructed, historically sensitive and peaceful cornerstone to the town of Cold Spring. And while some that had criticized the project have come by to express their delight with the end result, I think it is important to put into writing a congratulations to the Town Architectural Review Board and, specifically, Mr. Thomas Donahue for his artful and dogged determination to create a place of beauty.
The development of property has so often been linked with unsuccessful intrusions on the fabric of communities. The Cold Spring Landing project should help by serving as an example of what can be achieved when a developer has the foresight to engage a gifted designer like Mr. Donahue. Anyone who followed the construction of the landing homes will remember the constant presence of Thomas as he did what seemed like hourly inspection tours monitoring every detail and proportion. It is that vested interest in not just a development but a town as a whole that distinguishes Mr. Guillaro's contribution to the Riverfront. I hope that similar design involvement will be used in the development of the Butterfield Hospital and its important gateway to the Village acreage.
