BOCES Students Donate to Briarcliff Animal Shelter

| Eight students at Putnam/ Northern Westchester BOCES' Pines Bridge School recently visited the SPCA of Westchester's Briarcliff Animal Shelter on North State Road to personally drop off baskets of toys and treats for the animals.
During the weeks before the trip, the students in Judy Gillet's class baked their own dog biscuits and brought donated toys from home in to school. The community service project was inspired by "Make a Difference Day" in October. In addition to lessons in cooking, the class wrote books documenting the entire project. Pines Bridge is a school for multiply disabled children ages 5 through 21.
At the shelter, Director of Volunteer Services Alice Shanahan introduced the students to Biscuit, a puppy at the shelter, and Polly, a Siamese cat. There are more than 200 cats and dogs at the facility, which was established in 1883, making it one of the oldest in the country.
Before returning to Pines Bridge, the students received "Kind Kids" certificates.
