Mt Gulian Offers Children's Christmas Victorian Tea

Mount Gulian Historic Site in Beacon invites children and adults to its Children's Christmas Victorian Tea on Thursday, December 27 from noon until 2pm.

The tradition of Victorian ladies and their gentlemen meeting in the afternoons for tea and conversation was popular at many Hudson Valley homes, including Mount Gulian, home of the Verplanck family. Teatime at Mount Gulian was held mid-afternoon with the menu consisting of small cakes, crust-less sandwiches, and assorted sweets.

Guests attending the Children's Tea will be served the above mentioned traditional menu as well as milk, a popular beverage today but not so in earlier times because of bacteria and the lack of refrigeration. Additionally, young guests will receive instruction in nineteenth century etiquette and sachet making.

Introduce a new tradition to your holidays by attending Mount Gulian's Children's Victorian Tea with your children, relatives or little friends. It's fun, informative and a wonderful way to occupy their time during school break.

Pre-paid reservations are required by December 21, 2007. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for children. For more information call 845-831-8172. Directions may be found at www.mountgulian.org.
