Second City-Wide Beacon Open Studios a Success
 | | Thomas Huber (left) discusses his new works on display in Beacon |
| Participating Beacon, New York artists opened their studios to the public for viewings and sales of their work on Sat & Sun December 8 & 9, 2007 from 1-5pm. A citywide map pointed to the sixteen artists studios and included artworks in drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed media, sculpture, wood and fine art photography. One of the artists, Carol March said, "This event was a great success. We had over thirty visitors and l'm looking forward to participating in the next one in June, 2008." Estimates from the full weekend's event approximated nearly 200 people visited the studio sites around town. One visitor said, "What's so wonderful about Beacon Open Studios is that you get to see such a wide range of an artists work, then spend a few moments with them personally and find out about who they are and what thoughts and ideas go into their work. It's a very interactive setting to view and buy the great works of art we have here locally."
Future ideas, events and programs for the Beacon Art Salon, which organized the Open Studios event, include an artist directory series featuring local artists, public art events where artists invite the public to join in art activities on the street, a Beacon arts events website, sister city programs with Brooklyn and Boston, a city-wide arts festival (including spoken word poetry slam and a performing arts component), visual art workshops, and the next city-wide open studios event (which now takes place semi-annually) in June of 2008.
