Head Teacher, Sandy Dixon, has announced that the museum will be holding an "open house" for prospective students for the 2008-9 school year on Tuesday, February 5 from 4pm until 6pm. Current students and their siblings may register for next year's program by December 21. Siblings of Young Naturalist Alumni may register between January 2 and January 26. All new students may register at the Open House. This unique program emphasizes science-based activities, outdoor experiences, social skills and preparation for kindergarten using the resources of the Museum including its collection of live animals and its 177 acres of fields, ponds and woodlands. It is in its tenth year of operation.

"It is amazing how much 3- and 4- year olds can learn about nature and science," says Head Teacher Mrs. Dixon. "We hike to the forest, plant seeds, create things from recyclables, draw from nature, observe insects, experiment, identify birds, search for tadpoles and generally have a great time."

The Young Naturalist Program runs from September to June. Children who are three years old by Dec. 1, 2008 (and potty-trained) meet two days week on Tuesday and Thursday from 9am until 11:45am or 12:15pm until 3pm. Children who are four by Dec. 1, 2008 meet three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am until 11:45am or 12:15pm.until 3pm.

Mrs. Dixon explained that "current participants or siblings may register first and the 4-yearold program has limited openings for next year. We hope that people who are interested, especially in the 3-year-old program, will be sure to come to the open house and register early."

The program and the Open House are held at the Museum's Outdoor Education Center at 20 Kenridge Farm Drive, Route 9W in Cornwall. For further information, call the Museum at 845-534-5506 ext. 204 or v i s iwww.hhnaturemuseum.org.
