Cold Spring Fire Co. Junior Firefighters Hold Food Drive

This past Sunday, 25 graduates of the Cold Spring Fire Company Junior Firefighter Academy braved the elements to attend a Christmas party held at the firehouse. But not only did the kids enjoy homemade desserts, punch, hot chocolate, goodie bags, and a round of Christmas jeopardy, they also came for a good cause. The junior firefighters brought more than 100 cans of food, which will be donated to the Philipstown Food Pantry. The junior firefighters also wrote several Christmas cards, which will be mailed to the residents of the Fireman's Home in Hudson, N.Y. The Fireman's Home is a state-of-the-art nursing facility for retired firefighters. Each year the Academy visits the home and the New York State Firefighting Museum.

This past summer, fifty kids attended the 5th Annual Cold Spring Fire Company Junior Firefighter Academy. The camp is operated by volunteers of the Cold Spring Fire Company and co-sponsored by the Philipstown Recreation Department. It's open to Philipstown residents from fourth to eighth grade. Thanks to the overwhelming support from our community, the academy is free of charge. Next year's Firefighter Academy will start on July 21. For more info, visit their website at www.coldspringfd.org
