A Welcome Change
Dear Editor:

First things first - congratulations to Bill Mazzuca on his re-election as Town Supervisor. Congratulations to Nancy Montgomery and Barbara Scuccimarra, on being newly elected, to the Town Board.

I want to commend the Town Board, especially Richard Shea, for bringing about a welcome change to Philipstown. Recently the Town Board interviewed two planning firms -The Chazen Company and AKRF. Both companies gave very professional presentations and seemed to understand the new direction the Town, as well as many residents, wish to go in. Both firms recognized the importance of incorporating the guidelines of the Comprehensive Plan, Natural Resources Index, Open Space Index, storm water management, environmental laws, new zoning laws, and streamlining the permit process. Both firms recognized the importance of eliminating the real or perceived conflicts of interest, that have plagued Philipstown in the past.

The new firm would be involved in building projects, from their inception to their completion. This welcome change, would eliminate developers from completing, or almost completing their projects, without first going through the complete permit process. In the past, developers would circumvent any number of Town Laws, choose to pay minimal fines, ignore stop work orders, and carry on with only a minor inconvenience.

Having a new Town Planner, would force local surveyors and engineers, to actually be factual, and comply with Town Laws. No longer will they be able to distort or withhold pertinent information for their clients' best interest. Philipstown's best interest will supercede developers' best interests, a welcome change indeed.

Lastly; the new planning firm can give appropriate guidance to the Planing Board, Z.B.A. and building department. This has been sorely lacking in the past. Once again; congratulations, Town Board, for taking us in a new positive direction.
