Assemblywoman Galef Silent on Tax Hikes To the Editor:
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef has been conveniently quiet on the numerous tax hikes that Governor Spitzer has proposed. What does this mean? Where does she stand? Are back room deals being made?
By not publicly responding to Governor Spitzer, it leaves us with an impression that she continues to support the increased levies on everything from personal income tax, to SUNY tuition, to thruway tolls and MTA fare hikes. Ms. Galef must let us know when she will draw the line in the sand, become more responsive to her constituents' plight, and stop spending taxpayer money precipitously. Our tax burden is forcing the middle class tax base out of our communities,
Our communities have been clear on the matter of property taxes especially. Assemblywoman Galef should work to cap property taxes before they are raised again this year. After all, how is NYS going to fund our schools when it is facing a multi-billion dollar deficit? The assemblywoman and her cohorts in the Democrat controlled assembly, time and time again, have voted to raise our taxes rather than cut the waste found throughout our budget.
Despite her years in Albany, Galef's lack of leadership and her inattention to the widespread sentiments of her constituents affects the daily lives of the taxpayers in Westchester and Putnam Counties. This is why our community is suffering with some of the highest property taxes in the country. Something must be changed and it is apparent that Sandy Galef is not the person to make those changes.
