Mahopac's Christopher Langley Named Student of Distinction by BOCES

Christopher Langley, a Mahopac High School senior who attends Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES' Tech Center, was named a Student of Distinction at Mahopac's Board of Education Meeting on December 11.

Christopher was recognized by BOCES for leadership, academic excellence, academic initiative, and community spirit. He received a certificate and medallion from BOCES as well as a plaque from the Mahopac Board of Education.

A second-year student in The Tech Center's CADD, or Computer Assisted Drafting and Design class, Christopher has been instrumental in creating designs for a SMART house at BOCES - an energy-efficient, self sufficient, solar-powered building that will be used as a greenhouse and a classroom. He serves as president of the BOCES chapter of Skills USA, a national organization that promotes leadership and social skills for students pursuing trade and technical careers.

At Mahopac High School, Christopher is enrolled in the Emergency Technical Training class, which dovetails with his status as an active member of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department.

Christopher's CADD teacher, Gerry Markel, describes him as "an excellent student in all aspects of our program and someone who shows great potential in the fields of architecture and engineering."

Christopher has applied to colleges with strong architecture programs and is currently debating whether to concentrate on commercial or residential designs.
