PVHS French Honor Society Hosts First Induction Ceremony

Putnam Valley High School celebrated its first French Honor Society Initiation Ceremony on December 11, 2007 at 7pm in the high school's Performing Arts Center.

The program began with a welcome and introductions from Alexis Thornton, French Teacher and Chapter Advisor. Alexandra Bailhache, the new Chapter President and Shannon Brown, the Chapter Vice-President, explained the ceremony. Dr. Barbara Fuchs, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Richard Herlihy, Interim Principal of PVHS, and Mrs. Thornton gave words of encouragement.

The Introduction of Inductees was supervised by Colleen Calabro, Chapter Secretary, followed by the Candle Lighting, Signing of Registry, Reception of Certificates and the administration of the Oath.

The members of the French Honor Society are: *Alexandra Bailhache, Anastasia Bailhache, Michele Belanich, Stephanie Borrell, *Shannon Brown, Dara Busman, *Colleen Calabro, Ian Cummings, Thomas Elbrecht, *Jackson Gilman-Forlini, Victoriea Hamilton, *Ronald Mahnert, *Katherine Mahoney, Megan Mahoney, *Christine Malek, Hannah Parzen, and *Hannah Schmidt [*denotes Seniors].

Mrs. Thornton summarized, "The French Honor Society hopes to work within our school system to enrich our students' studies and to further promote the exploration of the French language and culture. Students will have celebrations of French cultural aspects, participate in cultural/historical presentations, and will work in both the middle and high school tutoring younger students in their French studies."
