John R. Acosta

John R. Acosta of Cold Spring, lost his battle to cancer on May 20, 2008. John was born on November 4, 1947 in McAllen Texas, was raised in Houston and moved to New York in the early Eighties. He proudly served his country in the Air Force in the Sixties and soon began his career with the telephone company, from which he had recently retired after 34 years.

John was an avid sports fan who loved to play golf every chance he got. He will always be remembered as a proud Texan with an incredible sense of humor, lighthearted attitude and love for his family.

He is survived by Josephine Acosta, his son Stephen, daughters Monica and Elizabeth, sisters Sylvia Rodriguez, Gloria Bhawnani and Teresa Moreno, many nieces and nephews, two grand nephews, one grand niece and his beloved companion Katherine Hallinan. He will truly be missed by his family and many friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Guadalupe and Maria Acosta, his older brother Gilbert Acosta and younger brother Frank Acosta.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Loretto Church, located at 24 Fair Street in Cold Spring, on Thursday, May 29th at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Fund.
