Putnam County to Study new Site for Kent Senior Center
Legislature approves multiple bond issues

    The Putnam County Legislature unanimously approved the issuance of treasury bonds at their August 5, 2008 full Legislature meeting for three separate items. The largest of these, in the amount of $814 Thousand, would cover highway infrastructure and road repairs. Legislator Vinny Tamagna explained that this was done on an annual basis following state guidelines. Full Story
Sheriff's Office Probes Lake Peekskill Residential Burglaries
Residents asked to be additional eyes and ears of law enforcement

    The Putnam County Sheriff's Department is investigating a number of residential burglaries that have occurred in the Lake Peekskill section of the Town of Putnam Valley recently. According to Sheriff Don Smith, since May 16, 2008, the Sheriff's Office has received ten complaints of homes being unlawfully entered and items stolen from within. Full Story

Review of Proposed New Zoning Law Begins

    The issues that have smoldered for months regarding the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company (GVFC) budget and the funding the department receives from the Town of Philipstown will be dealt with at an August 19, 2008 public meeting that was announced at last week's Town Board meeting. Full Story

200 Cyclists Take 6-day, Gasfree Vacation Through Hudson Valley During 4th Annual Great Hudson Valley Pedal Tour

    They started out in Albany on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, leaving their cars and expensive gas behind. Some 200 bicyclists from 25 states and Canada are participating in the 4th annual Great Hudson Valley Pedal event, organized by Parks & Trails New York, a statewide not-for-profit organization. The 200-mile bicycle tour ends on Sunday, August 17 in New York City. Full Story

    Francis "Patrick" Lahey, age 55, of Beacon, died on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Born in Cold Spring, on April 27, 1953, he is the son of Francis J. "Terry" Lahey and the late Joan (Matthews) Lahey. Full Story
Zenon Dubiel

    Zenon Dubiel, age 54, of Cold Spring, NY, died on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Wingate at Beacon in Beacon NY. Born August 10, 1954 in Walbrzych, Poland, he is the son of Adela (Fudali) Dubiel and the late Zdzislaw Dubiel. Mr. Dubiel was an Electrician for General Motors in North Tarrytown, NY and was a member of the UAW, local #644, in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Full Story
