Arthur J. Sutton

Arthur J. Sutton of Cold Spring, died on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor, NY.

Born in Cold Spring, he was the son of the late Kathryn C. (Beard) Brownell and the late Arthur M. Sutton.

Mr. Sutton was an Engineer and Senior Technical Staff member with IBM. He retired in 1992 after 36 years working in the Poughkeepsie Development Office where he received the 9th level Invention Achievement Award for work in Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability.

He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a BS Degree and earned his Masters Degree from Columbia University. He served as Village of Cold Spring Trustee and Deputy Mayor from 1961-1971, where he was a leader in establishing the sewer treatment plant, and the planning and zoning boards. A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he received an Army Commendation Medal and was a member of VFW Post #2362. He was also a member of Cold Spring Fire Co. #1, Senior and Life member of IEEE Professional Society, and member of Fishkill Historical Society. He served as trustee, parish council member, and lector of Our Lady of Loretto Church. An avid Army football fan, he was also active in tennis, golf, and photography.

He is survived by his wife, Lois (Tierney) Sutton of the home address; two sons, Arthur J. Sutton, Jr. and wife Susan of Hopewell Junction, NY and David J. Sutton and partner Michael Hennessey of Marlboro, NY, and two grandchildren, Karla E. Sutton and Arthur Sutton, III.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at our Lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair St., Cold Spring, followed by interment in Cold Spring Cemetery. Friends called at Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring, on Tuesday, September 16.
