Comprehensive Plan Special Board to Release Survey Results on January 10
The Cold Spring Comprehensive Plan & LWRP Special Board invites the public to a Jan. 10, 2008 meeting that will include the release of the results of the 2007 village-wide survey. The survey drew a response of more than 20 percent.
The results will be presented at the board's regular monthly meeting, scheduled for 7pm at the Cold Spring Fire Company on Main Street. According to the Board's Survey Group, the presentation will include a slide show and succinct written report and focus on key findings, providing statistics and numerical breakdowns, a look at priorities, summaries of residents' statements on their vision for Cold Spring, and information from other survey data.
Drafted by the Survey Group, a team of volunteers, and inspired in part by polls in similar communities, the survey was mailed in early May, with two copies delivered - a few days apart - to each of the approximately 950 residences in the Village of Cold Spring. The Special Board likewise made copies available at the Cold Spring Village Hall and Butterfield Library, so that no village resident missed out on the chance to provide his or her views.
Along with questions on village character, including historical and environmental considerations; the waterfront, including both natural and human-derived attributes; business and economic development; government and public resources, including police and fire services; quality of life/community resources, and housing and buildings, the survey solicited written suggestions and reactions and sought limited demographic material in an "about me" section.
Students in the 2006-07 statistics class at Haldane High School helped with initial data-entry after collection of the surveys in late May. The Survey Group subsequently devoted hundreds of hours in checking and re-checking each bit of entry; ensuring that nothing in the numerous written comments got overlooked or mis-typed; pulling together the data in a usable format; and finally, performing the rudimentary analysis essential for a basic airing of the results, while also drafting the written materials for public presentation. Efforts continued well after Christmas. All are welcomed at 7pm, on Thursday Jan 10, 2008 at the Cold Spring Fire House on Main Street.
