Founder and Chairman of Putnam County Independence Party to Step Down in 2008

Six-term Chairman of the Putnam County Independence Party, William G. Sayegh, principal of the Sayegh Law firm in Carmel, has announced his retirement as Chairman of the party effective in 2008.

Mr. Sayegh, who founded the party 12 years ago, has been considering the move for the past several years citing his opinion that no one person should maintain control of any political seat longer than necessary to implement the ideology one has envisioned. Sayegh has effectively shepherded the Independence Party through its infancy as an interim county organization to a fully evolved party with State and Judicial delegates, an organized committee, and a full slate of officers on the executive committee. In his tenure with the Independence Party, Mr. Sayegh has served at all levels including that of state delegate, judicial delegate, counselor, chairman and spokesperson.

"I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished over the past 12 years through a lot of hard work and dedication to the party, said Mr. Sayegh. "While I am retiring entirely from the political arena to pursue several new expansion projects with my law firm, I will be continuing my efforts in local civic organizations." Mr. Sayegh is involved in numerous organizations and serves on several charitable, recreational and advisory boards - most notably he is board member of the Southern New York Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
