Putnam Valley School District Gives Back for the Holidays

PVHS Students gather to sort and box donated winter coats.
The Putnam Valley Central School District is proud to report that numerous community programs will benefit this holiday season from the hard work and generosity of their staff and students.

New and gently used coats- 134 of them- were collected at Putnam Valley High School (PVHS). The coat drive was conducted by the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society (Advisor, Jerri Cohen), the Interact Club (Advisors, Teri Zagorski and David Campion), the Spanish Honor Society (Advisor, Graciela Greenberg) and the French Honor Society (Advisor, Alexis Thornton). Most of these coats were donated to the Putnam County Community Action Program (CAP) and will be distributed to county residents in need. The remaining coats will go to a Midnight Run to help the homeless.

Mu Alpha Theta also collected over 100 pairs of children's pajamas. Half were donated to the Westchester Pajama Program and the other half were sent to Putnam CAP. Some of the more than 500 children's books collected by the Future Teachers Club (Advisors, Grace Bisogne and Angela Capodanno) for a program entitled "United through Reading" were also donated to CAP.

Over 250 new toys were donated to Toys for Tots by students, faculty, and staff in the PVCSD. The toy drive was organized by the Interact Club. The toys were distributed to children in Putnam County through the CAP, with assistance from School Resource Officer/Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Richard Mansfield.
