| Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Tech Center's Cosmetology students recently sat down with the Computer-Assisted Drafting and Design students to work on a collaborative, entrepreneurial project.
Cosmetology students are required, as part of their curriculum, to design a beauty salon, which includes researching equipment and layout as well as developing a budget. The CADD students help their Cosmetology peers take the ideas for the salons and translate them into computerized blueprints.
CADD teacher Gerry Markel says The Tech Center Career Academies encourage these kinds of collaborative projects, which allow students in different career classes to learn from one another. This CADD/Cosmetology partnership "requires a lot of cooperation," Mr. Markel adds, with students sharing architectural ideas, computer program design techniques, and business strategies.
