County Players presents Tom Topor's Award-Winning Play Nuts

County Players opens the third show of its 50th Anniversary season with the dramatic play Nuts on Friday, February 1 at 8pm . Billed as an awardwinning drama, Nuts is directed by County Players' veteran Bill Peckham.

Set in a courtroom in New York's Bellevue Hospital, the story concerns a woman's valiant attempt to fight those who want to have her committed as mentally incompetent to stand trial on a manslaughter charge. Claudia Faith Draper (Janet Nurre) is attractive, educated, and well brought up. Her rage erupts as she refuses to be labeled "nuts." At the hearing to controvert the findings of her psychiatric examination, she takes on the entire system as well as her confused mother, Rose (Zsuzsa Manna) and explosive stepfather, Arthur (Don Creighton). Aaron Levinsky (Michael Frohnhoefer), the court-appointed Lawyer, gets the reluctant duty to defend her. Watching Claudia fight for what she believes hits home and is quite moving. Nuts is an arresting yet at times very funny drama with surprises at every turn. Rounding out the cast is Marshall Breite, Sue Brooks, Steve Ford, RoseMarie Navarra, and Tony Romano "This play is courtroom drama at its best. It's an actor's dream. Every role is challenging and the action is continuous throughout. The legal issues are as relevant today as they were when the play opened on Broadway in 1980, and still unsettled." says Bill Peckham, who is thrilled to be directing this play and couldn't be more pleased with the production's very talented cast and crew. "It's interesting to note that County Players has been in possession of the original set pieces since Nuts closed in 1981. We finally got around to doing the show. We have redesigned the set incorporating these beautiful units into our stage. It's an impressive show."

Subsequent performances of Nuts will be February 2, 8, 9, 15, 16 at 8pm and February 10 at 2pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and children under 12 years of age. Please note: Nuts contains adult content. Call the Box Office at 845-298-1491 for reservations. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover Card are accepted. You can also visit www.countyplayers.org.
