Special Holiday Program Was Held in Memory of Allen Pike
In December, The Putnam County Office for the Aging, The Retired Seniors' Volunteer Program, the Friends of the Senior Citizens of Putnam County, The William Koehler Center SeniorNet, and the Retired Teachers' Association of Putnam County, co-sponsored a Special Holiday Program in memory of Allen Pike, who passed away on August 20, 2007 at 89 years old. He had devoted thousands of hours volunteering in numerous community organizations including the American Cancer Society, Putnam County Retired Teachers' Association, Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in Mahopac, Putnam County Home Care Council, Putnam County Literacy Volunteers of America, Putnam Hospital Center, The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Putnam County Office for the Ageing's Advisory Board, and the SeniorNet Computer Program.
At the program, a memorial plaque, funded by the Putnam County Retired Teachers, was presented by Carol Knapp, president of the Putnam County Retired Teachers. The life story of Allen Pike was read by a colleague and long-time friend. Special guests were Allen's friends, the Reverend Willett Porter and Clifton Yarde, as well as members of The Retired Teachers Association, members of The Friends off the Senior Citizens of Putnam County, and the Mahopac SeniorNet Computer Program members. The plaque, along with a portrait of Allen, will hang in the SeniorNet Room at the William Koehler Senior Center. Mary White, RSVP Director and Cathy O'Brien, SeniorNet Coordinator, planned this special occasion.
The beautiful black and gold engraved plaque said, " In Memory of Allen Pike, 1919- 2007; Friend and Dedicated Volunteer; Remembered by: Friends of the Senior Citizens of Putnam County, Retired Teachers Association of Putnam County, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, SeniorNet of Mahopac; His Legacy is His Love for Mankind"
