Judge James Borkowski to lead Putnam County Magistrates' Association

Southeast Town Justice James Borkowski was elected to serve as President of the Putnam County Magistrate's Association. The association includes judges from all towns and villages in Putnam County, as well as the judges of the County Court and Supreme Court. The judges confer and coordinate on criminal justice and court issues common to all courts in Putnam County. Judge Borkowski was elected during the Association's meeting held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility where an inspection and tour of the facility's operations was conducted. "I am honored to be elected by my peers as President of the Magistrates' Association," said Judge Borkowski. "The Justice Courts handle two-thirds of court cases throughout New York State, including criminal cases, and play an important role in public safety. The association provides us with the ability to collectively confer with different municipalities so that we may coordinate and plan for future needs of our local criminal justice services." Judge Borkowski, a former prosecutor, is a ten year veteran of the Southeast Justice Court, and was recently elected to office for the third time.
