Keep that New Year's Resolution: Step Out at the 2008 START! Heart Walk
Walk teams are needed for the 2008 Dutchess Ulster Start! Heart Walk, the region's largest one-day fundraiser, to be held the morning of March 8 on the campus of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. Teams of every sort are welcome and encouraged to participate in the two- or four-mile walk.
"Heart disease and stroke are the number one and number three causes of death in the nation. There are few Hudson Valley families that have not been touched by these devastating diseases, and the annual Heart Walk provides an opportunity to raise critically needed funds to strike back against these killers," said Steven V. Lant, Chairman, President and C.E.O. of CH Energy Group and Chair of the 2008 Start! Heart Walk.
"Come walk in honor or memory of a loved one or in celebration of cure, but come and make a difference. Teams from both Dutchess and Ulster are needed to make this the most successful Heart Walk ever," said Lant, who added that the goal is to raise $500,000.
In addition to having fun, getting exercise and knowing that they are helping to raise funds for a great cause, participants who raise $500 or more will be entered into a drawing for a two-year lease on a brand new Nissan Versa, courtesy of Poughkeepsie Nissan (which has underwritten the lease and sales tax costs; the winner will pay only the registration and licensing fees). Teams and individuals are welcome and may register at www.dutchessulsterheartwalk.org; call Heart Walk Director Bob Olivo at (845) 905-2133 for more information.
