Howland Chamber Music Circle's Piano Festival 2008 Continues
On February 10, the Howland Chamber Music Circle continues its successful Piano Series with a performance by Bosnianborn pianist Pedja Muzijevic. One of the most versatile keyboard artists, he has been widely praised for his interpretations of the standard literature and for his imaginative programing. He has toured extensively as a recitalist and as a soloist with orchestras throughout eastern and western Europe, Canada, the United States, South America and Asia, performing with such orchestras as the Milwaukee Symphony, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague and the Dresden Philharmonic among many others.
As a solo recitalist Mr. Muzijevic made his Carnegie Hall debut performing the Mozart Concerto K. 503 with the Oberlin Orchestra under Robert Spano. He played at Alice Tully Hall in New York, Casals Hall and Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, The Frick Collection, the National Gallery, Lincoln Center's What Makes It So Great series, and at many of the world's important festivals.
Pedja Muzijevic made his New York recital debut in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center as a recipient of the Juillard School's coveted William Petschek Award. His many other honors include top prize in the Busoni International Piano Competition and a finalist diploma in the Naumburg International Piano Competition, as well as special prizes of the Chopin Society in Warsaw, and the Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon. He has toured with Mikhail Baryshnikov in Solos with Piano or not... throughout the United States and Europe and with Simon Keenlyside in the Trisha Brown staged version of Schubert's Die Winterreise. He is the Director of Music Programing at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City.
For his recital at the Howland Center, Mr. Muzijevic has chosen to play two Scarlatti Sonatas, K. 519 and K. 17, Beethoven Sonata Op. 7, three Mazurkas and the Polonaise-Fantaisie by Chopin, Conlon Nancarrow's Tango. And three works by Liszt: Schlaflos - Frage und Antwort, Bagatelle sans tonalite and the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 11.
The concert will take place on Sunday, February 10, at 4pm at the Howland Center, 477 Main Street, Beacon and will be followed by a reception to meet the artist.
