Philipstown Recreation Commission to Hold Master Plan Public Workshop All residents are encouraged to attend
On Tuesday, January 29 at 8pm the Philipstown Recreation Commission will be holding a public workshop to discuss the Master Plan for Recreation. The meeting will be held at the Philipstown Community Center, located in Garrison. All residents of Philipstown are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting.
The Master Plan for Recreation was developed over the past 5 years with input from the public, architects and engineers, as well as recreation personnel. Now is the community's chance to ensure the plan contains what they see as a vision for recreation in Philipstown and if not, to express their wants and desires. The last master plan was adopted in 1990 before the Town owned recreation facilities. In the past 10 years, Philipstown has been fortunate enough to acquire Philipstown Park, lease the Philipstown Depot Theatre and in the near future, also acquire the Philipstown Community Center located on the Capuchin Property on Rte. 9D in Garrison. With these additions, the Recreation Commission felt it was necessary to develop a new plan that will include all the potential these properties have to offer.
It is important that all community members take an active role in helping to define recreation for Philipstown. Recreation is something that every member of the community, young or old, can take advantage of. A copy of the Master Plan can be found at the Recreation office at the Community Center, on the Town website at www.philipstown.com, at the Desmond Fish Library, at the Butterfield Library or at Town Hall. For those who can not attend the workshop, written public comment can be submitted to Amber Stickle, Recreation Supervisor, PO Box 155, Cold Spring, NY 10516 or amber@philipstownrecreation.com until February 22, 2008.
