Putnam/Westchester Metal Detectorists & Archeological Society to Meet

The Putnam/Westchester Metal Detectorists & Archeological Society will hold their next meeting at 7:30pm on February 5 at Guideposts, 39 Seminary Hill Road, Carmel. All are invited to attend.

Founded in 1996, the group has been active in the Putnam, Dutchess and Fairfield County, CT areas, not only enjoying group hunts held throughout the year, but also doing local historical and police recovery work. A number of responses to "lost ring" requests have resulted in an owner's ring having been located. The club stands ready to assist local Law Enforcement agencies and Historical Societies and will search for lost articles free of charge.

Group activities being discussed for the 2008 season include several group search outings, a detecting trip to a garnet mine, a trip to Cape Cod for detecting and fun, a seeded hunt. This year, the group will begin a foray into related activities such as gems, gold prospecting, and Indian artifacts, since many of these items are located while metal detecting. Also planned is a speaker who will address aspects of the US Civil War as related to metal detecting.

The club currently has about 60 members of all ages and who come from all walks of life. While the club has some very serious and experienced relic, beach and water hunters with state of the art equipment, those just starting out in the hobby with basic equipment will feel equally comfortable.

For more information, call 845-628-1025, email prezmetal@comcast.net, or visit them at www.greattreasure.com. Anyone interested in metal detecting and finding out more about the club is welcome to attend.
