| On Saturday, February 9 at 2pm, at Guideposts in Carmel, the Putnam Chapter #1183 of AARP will have Don Konen, a Patterson, NY resident and historian, discuss the common boundary between New York and Connecticut entitled "The Oblong". Mr. Konen is a Trustee of the Patterson Historical Society and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Danbury Railway Museum. This will be a free program, and all Senior Citizens and their friends are invited.
A "train fan" and amateur historian, Mr. Konen is the author of the recently released book Vignettes of Patterson's Past, published by the Patterson Historical Society. His talk on "The Oblong" will discuss the interesting and sometimes amusing story of how the common boundary between New York and Connecticut came to be established. Local history fans should certainly hear this unique and often misunderstood history.
This chapter of AARP has an interesting schedule for the upcoming spring months including The Kelly Oster School of Irish Dancing Program March 8, a fund-raising opportunity for bargains with a "Silent Auction" on April 12, and a presentation of SeniorNet Computer Classes and computer possibilities on May 10. A year's final spring luncheon will be in June (date to be announced).,, For questions about these programs or this AARP chapter contact President John Zaborney at 845-277-3149.
