Retired Putnam County D.A. Wright Receives Hogan Award
New York State's District Attorneys Association presented its highest honor, the Hogan Award, to retired Putnam County District Attorney Kevin Wright at the Association's annual winter banquet January 18, 2008 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan.
More than 250 elected and appointed prosecutors and dignitaries attended from around the state including keynote speakers Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Assistant Director of the FBI Mark Mershon, joined by NYS Homeland Security Secretary Michael Balboni and President James Murphy of the D. A.'s Association who presented the engraved silver award to Mr. Wright.
President Murphy explained to the guests that the Hogan Award, named for the famed corruption fighting New York County D.A. Frank S. Hogan who served almost 32 years from 1941 until 1973, is special award and is not presented every year by the Association. Murphy said that DA. Hogan's reputation for incorruptibility over the years earned him the title "Mr. Integrity" and that "no one fits that description better than Kevin Wright".
In accepting the award, Wright told the gathering he was "grateful for a profession of prosecutors who long ago chose a man like Hogan to epitomize the 212 history of New York State's District Attorneys" ... that he was "deeply humbled" to be honored in the name of a man so respected as Frank Hogan ... and he sincerely hoped the next "chapter" in his professional life would keep him close to such dear friends.
Mr. Wright's wife Willa attended, as did Adam Levy, elected last November as Putnam's new District Attorney upon Wright's retirement. Also attending were many of the Assistant District Attorneys who worked under D.A. Wright. After thirty-two years of public service Mr. Wright said he is continuing to pursue his legal career in the private sector.
