Haldane Playground Fundraiser at Thunder Ridge Ski Area
On Friday, February 8, the Haldane Central School District is closed for Superintendents Day and the Playground Committee is taking advantage of the kids out of school by enticing them with a day of family fun and exercise on the slopes! Thunder Ridge Ski area in Patterson, NY is offering an excellent discount on ski lessons and rentals to the Haldane community as well as contributing a generous portion of the day or night lift ticket sales generated by our community to the Haldane PTA specifically for the benefit of the Haldane Elementary School playground renovation. Participants just need to mention they are there for the Haldane Fundraiser. More information can be given by contacting either Pamela Gunther at 265-9199 or gpgunther@optonline.net, Mary Lou Sussmeier at 897- 5398 or sussmeier@optonline.net or Carolyn Panthen at 265-2692 or lionden@optonline.net. Preregistration is recommended.
Since the Playground Committee was created in the fall of 2006, the playground has received a new seal-coat, additional wood fiber surfacing, colorful one-of-a-kind blacktop games, and new tables for the middle school students. Additionally, the purchase of the new play equipment by the school was made possible as a result of a highly successful fundraiser by the Haldane School Foundation last fall. The equipment was delivered to the school last month and installation is being planned over the spring break.
The Playground Committee is currently working on finalizing the landscaping features and is looking to further develop the concept of a sculpture garden in a corner of the playground with the help of the Philipstown Garden Club and Flagler Landscaping. Future fundraising events are being planned to assist in purchasing the sun shade structure, benches, chess tables and landscaping features.
